One thing I was sort of scared about when I started this guide was writing a contest guide that had some decent info in it. Well, I am happy to say that I finally got the contest guide done (Even though it does lack examples of good Pokemon to use...I sort of went against my own examples while doing the contests and barely managed to squeak by the Master Rank in all 5 contest types). If anyone has any info on good Pokemon to use, feel free to send it in. Anywho, here are the updated: -Added the contest guide -Updated the section # for the Accesories locations and berry list. Next thing should be the Ribbon guide, and maybe a small guide in how to raise Milotic. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- September 8, 2007: Few changes: -Added a small note on Route 214 for people having trouble finding Cynthia -Corrected a few mistakes with the Natures list and updated it to a Natures Guide (Added a little bit of info on it) -A person was kind enough to email in a strategy on catching Cresselia. -Finally added the Pokemon Battle Revolution guide with items and the Pokemon obtainable in that game. -Added a Mystery Gift Guide -Added a guide on how to transfer Manaphy over to D/P. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- September 9, 2007: This was something I was planning on doing when I was close to finishing the guide, and since I am I decided to go ahead and add it. -Pokemon movelist section added. The movelist section is mostly my own personal movesets that I have either seen other people use with great success, or made myself. I also put a form up for anyone who may want to submit their own. I added 4 Pokemon, and I plan on adding more in the future. UPDATE #2: Added a few new things: -I seperated the Legendary Pokemon from the Post National Dex section and put them in their own seperate one. -Some of the section numbers have been updated -I updated the Feebass section from a small article to a misc guide about how to evolve it into Milotic as well. -Added Pokemart info for each city -Added the Pokemart Item section in the misc guides section -Added the Pokeradar Pokemon to the Post-National Dex section. +------------------------+ || SINNOH || +--------+ || TABLE OF CONTENT || || A001 || //---------------------------------++-----------------------------------\\ || Name || Section # || \\---------------------------------++-----------------------------------// || Route 201 || 00A3 || || Sandgem Town || 00B3 || || Route 202 || 00C3 || || Jublife City || 00D3 || || Route 203 || 00E3 || || Oreburgh Gate || 00F3 || || Oreburgh City || 00G3 || || Oreburgh Mine || 00H3 || || Oreburgh Gym || 00I3 || || Oreburgh Gate-Jublife || 00J3 || || Route 204 || 00K3 || || Floaroma Town || 00L3 || || Route 205 || 00M3 || || Eterna Forest || 00N3 || || Eterna City || 00O3 || || Eterna Gym || 00P3 || || Galactic Building || 00Q3 || || Route 206 || 00R3 || || Route 207 || 00S3 || || Mt. Be aware that once you make a choice, you cannot change it. Once you do begin the game, you will be on the top floor of your house(Your room). Go downstairs and your mother will tell you that your rival is looking to you. Head outside to continue (Although this is obvious information, the doors or exits usually have a place mat or stairs/elevator of some kind to mark where it is). As you can see, Twinleaf is a small town. There is a small puddle down south, but there is nothing you can get from it. There are three other houses in town; two of which have nothing in them. To get to your rivals house, go to the house that is in the northwest corner of town. Once you talk to your rival, go in his house to find out where he went. Head north to Route 201 to find your rival. He will then ask you to go with him to Verity Lake, which is to the left of where you are at now. Head there now. You will catch your first glimpse of the Prof. and his assitant, the opposite gen er you choose (Dawn if you are a male and Lukas if you are a female). Rowan will talk to you for a minute and then walk off without his briefcase with the starters in it. Suddenly, you will be attacked on both sides by wild Starly. You will now be able to choose your starter. Which one should you choose? Well, several factors come into play: *Do you know anyone else that has this game, and if so what starter did they get? Although you can get other starters via online trading, it would help to know what the other people around you have so you can get them a bit easier. *How experienced are you with previous Pokemon games? Turtwig evolves late at level 18, but evolves much earlier then the others at level 32 and has dual grass/ground type. Chimchar evolves earlier at level 14, but evolves like normal at level 36 and has fire/fighting type. Piplup evolves the latest at level 16, and then 36 with water/steel type. *Each have their own uses with gyms. Here is a example of each: +------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | First Gym: Rock |(Turtwig and Piplup are strong, and Chimchar is | | | weak against it until it gains fighting moves | | | when it evolves) | |----------------------|-------------------------------------------------| | Second Gym: Grass |(Chimchar is the strongest here, while Piplup | | | is the weakest) | |----------------------|-------------------------------------------------| | Third Gym: Fighting |(None are strong here, although Chimchar has | | | a type advantage against the leader's Lucario) | |----------------------|-------------------------------------------------| | Fourth Gym: Water |(Turtwig is the strongest here, while Chimchar | | | is the weakest) | |----------------------|-------------------------------------------------| | Fifth Gym: Ghost |(None are strong here, although Turtwig's | | | evolutions are strong against Gengar. Also | | | noteable is Chimchar's evolutions fighting | | | moves are ineffective against ghost types) | |----------------------|-------------------------------------------------| | Sixth Gym: Steel |(Chimchar is very effective here, while Turtwig | | | is fairly weak) | |----------------------|-------------------------------------------------| | Seventh Gym: Ice |(Chimchar is effective here, although its | | | evolutions are weak against the leader's | | | Medicham. Turtwig is ineffective here). | |----------------------|-------------------------------------------------| | Eighth Gym: Electric |(Turtwig's evolutions are very strong here, | | | while Piplup is weak here) | +------------------------------------------------------------------------+ As you can see, Chimchar is the most effective type-wise against the Gyms, while Turtwig comes in second. Piplup is not very effective in most of the gyms. Anywho, you should easily be able to KO the Starly that attacked you. Once that happens, the Prof.'s Assistant will show up and take the briefcase back. You will then automatically go back the way you came and enter a cutscene with the Prof. Once that is done, you will be on Route 201. ________________________________________________________________________ / \ / \ |--O--| ROUTE 201 |--O--| \___/________________________________________________________________\___/ \00A3/ ---- /------------------------------------------------------------\ |Pokemon |Version |Morning|Day |Night |Method | |---------------|----------|-------|-------|------|----------| |Starly |Both |50% |50% |40% |Normal | |Bidoof |Both |50% |50% |60% |Normal | |--------------------------|----------------------|----------| |After the National Dex |Encounter Rate |Method | |--------------------------|----------------------|----------| |Nidoran Male |Both |20% Diamond, 2% Pearl |PKMN Radar| |Nidoran Female |Both |2% Diamond, 20% Pearl |PKMN Radar| |Doduo |Both |40% |Swarm | |Growlithe |Both |8% |FireRed | \------------------------------------------------------------/ Not much to do here. You may want to check out the Pokemon Center as well and heal up. +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | !!! Now is also a good time to catch some Pokemon. Starly and Shinx are both great additions to your team, so try to catch them before you move on. Bidoof and Kricketot, though... Catch them for the Pokedex, at least. Also, there are some trainers on the route. Nothing too major: mostly in the 2-5 level range, so you may want to level up a little bit. You can also get a Potion in the grass near the entrance to Jublife City. ________________________________________________________________________ / \ / \ |--O--| JUBLIFE CITY |--O--| \___/________________________________________________________________\___/ \00D3/ ---- Pokemart Items: /-------------------------------------------\ |Item Name |Price | |--------------|----------------------------| |Poke Ball |200 | |Potion |300 | |Antidote |100 | |Paralyze Heal |200 | |Heal Ball |300 | |Air Mail |50 | \-------------------------------------------/ Ah, your first big city. Jublife may be one of the towns you visit the most later on because of the GTS (Located to the left of the Pokemon center, past the Trainer's School), but you cannot access it until you get your first Gym Badge. So, for now, head to the Pokemon center and heal yourself up and go to the Pokemon Center and buy some items. Once you are ready, head to the trainer school. Inside, you will see your rival. Talk to him to give him the parcel and he will give you a town map in exchange (Granted, it is sort of useless...). You can read the blackboard for some tips, and you can battle the two trainers to the right for a TM (no. 10, Hidden Power. Sort of useless in battle, in truth). The next thing you should do if talk to the man in the street in between the Pokemon Center and the Trainer School. He will tell you to find three clowns and answer several questions for a prize. Here are the location of the clowns (They are dressed in yellow and have Jesters hats): -In front of the Pokemart (Directly north of the Pokemon Center) -In front of the Jublife TV station (Directly north of town) -In front of the Poketech Company (Directly Northwest of town) As far as I remember, I do not remember getting a wrong answer (I said yes to all three and got the questions right. If anyone got anything different, email me). Once you get a right answer, you will get a Poketech coupon. Once you get all 3 Poketech coupons, go talk to the man to the left of the Pokemon center and he will give you a Poketech. This device will allow you to do several things on the touch screen that can be upgraded over time. However, at this point, you only have the first few Apps, so it is only good for time right now. Before you leave, you may want to go to Route 218 a bit early (Route 218 is west of Jublife). Inside the gatehouse on your way there, you can pick up a old rod from the fisherman. While is pretty much only catching Magikarp, it might be a good idea to pick a Magikarp early if you do not have a Water Pokemon (Keep in mind that Magikarp itself is pretty much useless. Its evolution at lv 20, Grads, is a very powerful Pokemon). Once you have gotten some Pokeballs and potions from the Pokemart and have seen everything you wanted in Jublife, head east to Route 203. ________________________________________________________________________ / \ / \ |--O--| ROUTE 203 |--O--| \___/________________________________________________________________\___/ \00E3/ ---- /------------------------------------------------------------\ |Pokemon |Version |Morning|Day |Night |Method | |---------------|----------|-------|-------|------|----------| |Bidoof |Both |15% |15% |15% |Normal | |Abra |Both |15% |15% |15% |Normal | |Shinx |Both |25% |25% |25% |Normal | |Starly |Both |35% |45% |25% |Normal | |Kricketot |Both |10% |- |10% |Normal | |Zubat |Both |- |- |10% |Normal | |--------------------------|----------------------|----------| |After the National Dex |Encounter Rate |Method | |--------------------------|----------------------|----------| |Cubone |Both |40% |Swarm | |Ralts |Both |20% |PKMN Radar| |Kirlia |Both |2% |PKMN Radar| |Seedot |Both |8% |Ruby | |Lotad |Both |8% |Sapphire | |Pineco |Both |8% |Emerald | \------------------------------------------------------------/ As soon as you enter the Route, you will be challenged by your Rival. Your starter should be kept in reserve | | and as a last option at this point. | \-------------------------------------------------------------------------/ Once you beat him, you will be able to continue. There are 5 trainers on this Route, so it may be a good time to level up for the upcoming Gym. Also, try to catch a Abra if you can at this point if you have someone that you can trade with. It is also a good idea to catch Shinx at this point if you have not. Once you are done on this route, continue east to the Oreburgh Gate.. ________________________________________________________________________ / \ / \ |--O--| OREBURGH GATE |--O--| \___/________________________________________________________________\___/ \00F3/ ---- 1st Floor: /------------------------------------------------------------\ |Pokemon |Version |Morning|Day |Night |Method | |---------------|----------|-------|-------|------|----------| |Zubat |Both |20% |20% |20% |Normal | |Geodude |Both |80% |80% |80% |Normal | |--------------------------|----------------------|----------| |After the National Dex |Encounter Rate |Method | |--------------------------|----------------------|----------| |None | \------------------------------------------------------------/ At this point, you cannot do much in this small cave. Talk to the hiker when your first enter to get HM 06, Rock Smash (Although you cannot use it at this point until you get the first badge). Geodude and Zubat are both common, both being a excellent addition to your team (Zubat's final evolution Crobat is a very good Poison/Flying type that would serve well as your main Poison Pokemon, and Geodude's final evolution Golem does well in most situations, but you will need to trade to get him). There are also some low level trainers here that you can't avoid, so make sure you use a Pokemon that needs the EXP. Head east until you reach the exit to Oreburgh City. ________________________________________________________________________ / \ / \ |--O--| OREBURGH CITY |--O--| \___/________________________________________________________________\___/ \00G3/ ---- Pokemart Items: /-------------------------------------------\ |Item Name |Price | |--------------|----------------------------| |Poke Ball |200 | |Potion |300 | |Antidote |100 | |Paralyze Heal |200 | |Heal Ball |300 | |Net Ball |1000 | |Tunnel Mail |50 | \-------------------------------------------/ Not much you can do at this point. Your rival is blocking the way to the Oreburgh Gym and tells you that the gym leader is not in right now. The Oreburgh Museum does not have much in it until you have some fossils from The Underground. The second condominium near when you first entered has a woman that will trade you a Abra for a Machop: a good deal if you cannot find one yourself (Although it cannot learn any level up moves until it evolves at lv 16, you can teach it TMs and HMs). Also, the Pokemon Center will now have the downstairs center open, allowing you to trade and battle people online. Once you are ready to continue, head down south to the Oreburgh Mine. ________________________________________________________________________ / \ / \ |--O--| OREBURGH MINE |--O--| \___/________________________________________________________________\___/ \00H3/ ---- /------------------------------------------------------------\ |Pokemon |Version |Morning|Day |Night |Method | |---------------|----------|-------|-------|------|----------| |Onix |Both |10% |10% |10% |Normal | |Geodude |Both |70% |70% |70% |Normal | |Zubat |Both |20% |20% |20% |Normal | |--------------------------|----------------------|----------| |After the National Dex |Encounter Rate |Method | |--------------------------|----------------------|----------| |None | \------------------------------------------------------------/ The only new Pokemon at this point is Onix, which is not quite a good choice at this point of the game (Catch anyway for the Pokedex if you do see one, though). Your main goal here is to go down to the basement and talk to the Gym Leader, Roark. He is located at the southern part of the basement area of the mine, next to two breakable rocks. Once you talk to him, he will return to the gym. At this point, there is much to do inside the mine besides train against wild Pokemon. You should be at least in the 10s range for all of your Pokemon. Once you are done in the mine, return to Oreburgh and head to the Gym. Keep in mind that he specializes in Rock and Ground type Pokemon, so water and grass Pokemon are good at this point. Only problem is the only Grass and Water Pokemon at this point are your starters... ________________________________________________________________________ / \ / \ |--O--| OREBURGH GYM |--O--| \___/________________________________________________________________\___/ \00I3/ ---- Fairly simple for a gym. You can either challenge the two trainers by going straight up (They are good EXP, and you cannot fight them once you beat the gym), or you can go up the steps on your left, over the bridge, and up the steps on your right, and then head to the Gym Leader. Make sure you bring several Potions before you fight him, and head to the Pokemon Center if you fought the other trainers. /-------------------------------------------------------------------------\ |Boss: Roark | |-------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Pokemon: | |Geodude lv 12 (Rock/Ground) | |Onix lv 12 (Rock/Ground) | |Crandios (Rock) | |-------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Info: Roark is similar to Brock and Roxanne from the previous games, | | although much harder. His signature move is Stealth Rock: a move | | similar to Spikes that damages your Pokemon when you switch out. | | Geodude is his easiest Pokemon, absorb from Turtwig and bubble | | from Piplup work well on him. His next Pokemon is Onix, which is | | sort of a tougher Geodude with a higher defense. Same strategy | | works well with him. His final Pokemon is Crandios: a powerful | | fossil Pokemon with a high attack (Headbutt is brutal at this | | point). The best Pokemon to use against him is a Geodude with the | | move Magnitude (Rock is weak against Ground, although Geodude | | learns it at lv 15). Its also good to note that if your starter | | isn't evolved, there is a good chance he will not last long against| | his Crandios (Especially Chimchar). There isn't much else to do at this point you can head up to Route 207 and catch a Machop early (They are fairly common. You can now break the rocks to the north of the Oreburgh Gate and enter the first half of the basement. The basement is not all that different. You can now find wild Psyduck somewhat early at this point (Not the best water Pokemon in the game), and you can get some Stardust and TM 70 (Flash, although you can buy it later in the game. Not to mention Flash is fairly useless in battle). After you get all that, you cannot continue further until you get a bike and surf. ________________________________________________________________________ / \ / \ |--O--| JUBLIFE CITY |--O--| \___/________________________________________________________________\___/ Now that you have the first badge, you can now enter the TV station and the GTS (Since you do not have that many Pokemon in your Pokedex at this point, it is sort of pointless. However, you might want to get a Crandios if you are playing Pearl, it will help quite a bit). However, as soon as you enter the forest, you will be forced to team up with a trainer named Cheryl. Although you had a partner battle before, here is some basics: -When you encounter a wild Pokemon, two of them will appear at once. You cannot throw a Pokeball until one of them faints. It may be a good idea to catch Pokemon after you get to Eterna. -When you have a party member and exit the way you came in, they will wait at the entrance and rejoin you the next time you enter. -You cannot surf or use rock climb while a trainer follows you. -After each battle, yours and the trainers Pokemon will be fully healed. If any are knocked out, they are revived. With that out of the way, its good to note that Chansey is a very weak Pokemon, usually healing itself or you in battle most of the time. However, it is at lv 15, which isn't too bad. Also, its a good idea to wait until later to catch Pokemon since you will have to faint one before you can throw Pokeballs and the trainer will still attack that Pokemon. Another thing to note is Eterna forest is filled with trainers lined up to have double battles. Even if you talk to just one, it will still be a double battle. To exit Eterna Forest: from the entrance, go right, then up, and then right again. Head down, then to the right, and then up, and then to the left and up again. If you get lost, just remember to keep going forward on the path. Eventually, you will hit two cut-table trees (Although you can't cut them yet since you do not have the badge or HM yet). If you head right from those trees, you will be out of the Forest and Cheryl will leave your party. Now that she is gone, it may be a good time to catch some Pokemon. Wurmple and its evolutions are a bit weak, so only catch them for the Pokedex. Buneary is a decent normal type and somewhat better then Bidoof and such. Diamond players can get a Murkrow, which now has a new evolution (Plus, it is a flying/Dark type, which is fairly good considering the lack of dark types in the game). Pearl players can get Misdreavus, a fairly decent ghost type (Granted, I still think Gengar is a bit better). Once you are done in the forest, head over to the other side of Route 205. ================================ ||Route 205 (Eterna City side)|| ================================ The Pokemon are pretty much the same, so there is no real point unless you want to level up. You can also now head to the underground and start digging for items (Keep in mind that some things won't appear until you get the National Dex). Head up north of the Pokemon Center to meet a young lady named Cynthia. She will give you HM 01 (Cut), although you cannot use it quite yet. You can also head over to the Herb Shop and buy some cheaper medicine, although it will lower your Pokemon's friendship with you. Next to the Pokemart is a Condominium where you can trade a Buizel for a Chatot (A flying/normal type you will not see until much later in the game. Not all that great for battle, though). Instead of trying to avoid trainers to get to the leader, you will have to fight 3 trainers before you can fight the leader herself. The bad? They will appear hidden one at a time and you have to fight them in order. Here are their locations: -The first is hidden by a tree near the gym leader's area. To reach it: head up to the gym leader's green platform and then turn to your right. Go down the path that leads south on the right path and you will find the trainer at the bottom on the right side. -The second trainer is located in the Southwestern path. From the first trainer, go back up and then go left and then down the path. She will be at the end, somewhat hidden by trees. -The third trainer is in the northeastern path. From the entrance of the Gym, head on the first right path and then keep going up until you reach the end. She will be hidden by a tree. Now that you are done with the Gym, you can continue on your quest. If you have not yet gone to the northern part of Eterna City, go there now to get HM 01 (Cut) from Cynthia (The blond lady). There is also a herb shop you can buy bitter medicine from. Once you have cut, teach it to a Pokemon and cut down the trees near the spikey building at the north part of town (To cut, either press A and select yes for the Pokemon that knows cut, or go into the Pokemon menu and select it). Also note that you will need the Gym Badge from this town before you can use cut. ________________________________________________________________________ / \ / \ |--O--| GALACTIC BUILDING |--O--| \___/________________________________________________________________\___/ \00Q3/ ---- Pretty straightforward for the most part. Your main goal is to get to the 4th floor, while battling Galactic Grunts along the way. Fortunately, you can avoid most of the grunts in the building, but they are decent EXP if you need it. The first floor has 2 grunts you will need to fight to proceed (Near the staircase). Second floor has all the grunts at computers, so you can avoid pretty much all of them. Third floor has a grunt near the entrance, so you cannot avoid that one. Finally, on the 4th floor, you will fight Commander Jupiter. /-------------------------------------------------------------------------\ |Boss: Commander Mars | |-------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Pokemon: | |Zubat lv 18 (Poison/Flying) | |Skuntank lv 20 (Poison/Dark) | |-------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Info: Zubat is the same as always, use the same tactics you used on the | | previous ones. You can head down to Oreburgh City via the mud ramp, but you will need the Bike in the higher speed gear to go back up. There are several well hidden trainers on the route that you can fight by going near the mud slope and head on the right path, but it doesn't lead anywhere but to a few items. Chingling is a new Pre-evolved form of Chimecho, a rare Pokemon from Ruby and Sapphire. However, it is somewhat weak, so only catch it for collecting purposes. Cleffa is somewhat hard to find, but it can also be useful. While it is hard to evolve (You need to level it up via friendship, and then again with a rare Moon stone), its final form Clefable is a decent Stage 2 Pokemon that can learn a variety of moves via TMs and HMs. Anywho, your first trip through Mt. Coronet will be a short run. In fact, there is only one route through the cave that you can go on. Once you get up to the stairs, you will meet a mysterious man dressed in similar clothes to the Galactic grunts you have been fighting. Once that is done, continue on the route through the cave. Also note that you will run into rocks you will need Rock Smash for, so if you took my advice earlier you should have no major problems. Afterward, you will get a fashion case and a tux (Male) or dress (Female). You will also be able to compete in Pokemon contests now, although it isn't recommended at this point. However, you may want to get the Poffin case right now, if you really want. Head to the house that is to the far right of the Pokemart, and talk to the old guy inside. He will give you a Poffin Case (and a Poffin itself, if I remember correctly). To make Poffins, you have to go to the Poffin House that is to the left of the Pokemart. Basically, you will need berries, and a stylus to make them (sort of a mini-game, I'll explain it later). Also, if you want egg Pokemon, head to the southeastern part of Hearthome and talk to the hiker. He will give you a egg that will hatch into a Happiny after 10,000 or so steps. Happiny is the new Pre-evolved form of Chansey, and can be a very devastating Pokemon if you raise it to a Blissey. Consider it if you want a stall Pokemon on your team. If you are up to make some more money, you might want to take a quick swing by the Amity Square (Located north of Hearthome). Its not mandatory, but you might want to check it out anyway. ================ ||Amity Square|| ================ While it may seem like a waste of time, Amity Square has a very helpful item called the Amulet Coin. To enter, you must have one of the following: -Pikachu -Clefairy -Psyduck -Pachirisu -Happiny -Buneary -Drifloon Psyduck, Pachirisu, and Buneary are all ready available Pokemon that you can find easily at this point in the came (Psyduck being the nearest you can catch). Drifloon only appears at the Windworks on Fridays, and Clefairy and Pikachu are a little rare to find. Anywho, the main thing you want to do here for now is get the Amulet Coin, which is in one of the old building things to the north. The Amulet Coin is a item that, when attached to a Pokemon and that Pokemon battles, you will get double the cash after you win. Good for high paying trainers and Elite Four battles. =================== ||Hearthrome City|| =================== Once you have seen everything you want to see in Hearthome, head to the Southwestern gate (Make sure you heal at a Pokemon center first). You will then fight your rival for the second time. /-------------------------------------------------------------------------\ |Boss: Rival | |-------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Pokemon: | |-------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Team 1 (If you choose Turtwig) | |Starly lv 19 (Normal/Flying) | |Buizel lv 20 (Water) | |Roselia lv 20 (Grass/Poison) | |Monferno lv 21 (Fire/Fighting) | |-------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Team 2 (If you choose Chimchar) | |Starly lv 19 (Normal/Flying) | |Roselia lv 20 (Grass/Poison) | |Ponyta lv 20 (Fire) | |Prinplup (Water) | |-------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Team 3 (If you choose Piplup) | |Starly lv 19 (Normal/Flying | |Buizel lv 20 (Water) | |Ponyta lv 20 (Fire) | |Grotile lv 21 (Grass) | |-------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Info: So far, your rival will be the strongest battle in the game to | | this point. So, lets look at his weaknesses. | | | | Starly is nothing at this point, although it is at a higher level | | then what you are used to. Electric from a Luxio should bring it | | down swiftly. | | | | Buizel is also another common Pokemon. Once again, a decent level | | Luxio should have no issue taking it down, if not a grass Pokemon. | | | | Roselia is a piece of cake after you fought Gardenia. Fire, ground | | and Psychic take care of it (Ice does too, but there is no ice | | Pokemon at this point). | | | | Ponyta is a interesting Pokemon. Not only is it fast, but it is one| | of 2 fire Pokemon families available in Pre-national Dex Sinnoh. | | Water and Ground take care of it easily. | | | | Monferno is going to be a headache if you do not have any flying | | or water types. If you have a Gyrados (it should have at least | | Dragon Rage at this point), you should have no problems. | | | | Prinplup is pretty much a stronger Buizel. Nothing too special. | | Luxio should take care of him easily, if not a grass Pokemon. | | | | Grotile is also a stronger Roselia, so same tactics against it. | | However, you do not have any fire Pokemon at this point, so | | flyers work best. | | | | Recommended Pokemon for this battle include: a Luxio that is at | | least lv 17 or higher. A Gyrados that is at least lv 20 (Obviously)| | a grass Pokemon such as Budew/Roselia or Grotile, a flying Pokemon | | such as Staravia, and any starter you might have. Lets break it down: Mime Jr is the pre-evolved form of Mr. Mime, but can only be caught in Diamond (Diamond players may want to pick one up if they did not get Bronzor earlier). Bonsly is the pre-evolved form of Sudowoodo, a rare Pokemon in earlier games. However, it is somewhat weak, so I would not recommend picking it up. Chansey are rare, but they sometimes carry the rare item lucky egg, and commonly carry Happiny's evolution item (the Oval Stone). May want to raise it from the Happiny egg you got earlier, though. Staravia make its first appearance, although it is recommended you train it from a Starly. Finally, there is Gastly, which can only be found at night. You can find plenty later, so avoid catching it for now. Route 209 is a...interesting route. Not only does it have a bunch of trainers, but they all have some fairly rare Pokemon. Your main goal is to get to Solaceon Town, but you may want to stop at the lost tower on the way, since it has a item you will need much later. You can find the tower to the right before entering Solaceon. ________________________________________________________________________ / \ / \ |--O--| LOST TOWER |--O--| \___/________________________________________________________________\___/ \00X3/ ---- 1st and 2nd Floors: /------------------------------------------------------------\ |Pokemon |Version |Morning|Day |Night |Method | |---------------|----------|-------|-------|------|----------| |Gastly |Both |50% |50% |40% |Normal | |Zubat |Both |50% |50% |40% |Normal | |Murkrow |Diamond |- |- |20% |Normal | |Misdreavus |Pearl |- |- |20% |Normal | |--------------------------|----------------------|----------| |After the National Dex |Encounter Rate |Method | |--------------------------|----------------------|----------| |None | \------------------------------------------------------------/ 3rd Floor: /------------------------------------------------------------\ |Pokemon |Version |Morning|Day |Night |Method | |---------------|----------|-------|-------|------|----------| |Gastly |Both |50% |50% |40% |Normal | |Zubat |Both |49% |49% |39% |Normal | |Golbat |Both |1% |1% |1% |Normal | |Murkrow |Diamond |- |- |20% |Normal | |Misdreavus |Pearl |- |- |20% |Normal | |--------------------------|----------------------|----------| |After the National Dex |Encounter Rate |Method | |--------------------------|----------------------|----------| |None | \------------------------------------------------------------/ 4rd Floor: /------------------------------------------------------------\ |Pokemon |Version |Morning|Day |Night |Method | |---------------|----------|-------|-------|------|----------| |Gastly |Both |50% |50% |40% |Normal | |Zubat |Both |45% |45% |35% |Normal | |Golbat |Both |5% |5% |5% |Normal | |Murkrow |Diamond |- |- |20% |Normal | |Misdreavus |Pearl |- |- |20% |Normal | |--------------------------|----------------------|----------| |After the National Dex |Encounter Rate |Method | |--------------------------|----------------------|----------| |None | \------------------------------------------------------------/ 5th Floor: /------------------------------------------------------------\ |Pokemon |Version |Morning|Day |Night |Method | |---------------|----------|-------|-------|------|----------| |Gastly |Both |50% |50% |40% |Normal | |Zubat |Both |40% |40% |30% |Normal | |Golbat |Both |10% |10% |10% |Normal | |Murkrow |Diamond |- |- |20% |Normal | |Misdreavus |Pearl |- |- |20% |Normal | |--------------------------|----------------------|----------| |After the National Dex |Encounter Rate |Method | |--------------------------|----------------------|----------| |None | \------------------------------------------------------------/ Fans of older Pokemon games may recognize this as a smaller Pokemon tower. Not only can you catch ghost and dark Pokemon that were exclusive to Eterna forest until now, but you can also get Gastly, the prevailed form of Haunter and Gengar. If you have someone that will trade with you, pick one up! It can be one of your main Pokemon later in the game, and can win you some major battles. Anywho, there are a bunch of trainers, many of which you cannot avoid. Also, pick up every item you can if you are training a Happiny. One of them is a Oval Stone, the item you need to evolve it into a Chansey. Anywho, the real reason you are here is to get HM04, Strength. To get it, go to the 5th and final floor and talk to the old lady on the left. While you cannot use it outside of battle right now, it can be used as a powerful move in battle, and you will need it much later. Once you are done, head back down to the bottom (or use a escape rope) and head to Solaceon Town. ________________________________________________________________________ / \ / \ |--O--| SOLACEON TOWN |--O--| \___/________________________________________________________________\___/ \00Y3/ ---- Pokemart Items: /-------------------------------------------\ |Item Name |Price | |--------------|----------------------------| |Poke Ball |200 | |Potion |300 | |Super Potion |700 | |Antidote |100 | |Paralyze Heal |200 | |Awakening |250 | |Burn Heal |250 | |Ice Heal |250 | |Escape Rope |550 | |Repel |350 | |Dusk Ball |1000 | |Net Ball |1000 | |Nest Ball |1000 | |Air Mail |50 | \-------------------------------------------/ For such a small town, you will be here quite a bit once you beat the Elite 4. Why? Well, the Day Care is here! If you want, you can leave a Pokemon there right now and pick it up later. While you won't get any EV's from it, you can put two compatible Pokemon in the center and trade them on the GTS (even better if you have a female starter). You can also get a breeding APP from the guy in the Pokemon Day Care when you talk to him, which tracks the level of any Pokemon in the daycare and if they have a egg. Anywho, there are a few other things you can do while you are here. The house next to the Pokemon Center is a News Press that is looking for someone to show them a certain Pokemon per day. Note that the Pokemon is random and usually from the Sinnoh Dex, so it can be a Pokemon you might have never met before. If you show the person the right Pokemon, he will give you 3 of any of the common balls out there (Can be anything from Pokeballs to Ultra balls, including balls such as Luxury Balls). You can also get a sticker case from the lady to the right of town. Simply go up to the edge of town, and go right. Go past the first hedges, and go to the second ones you seen and jump down. Jump down the next set of hedges to reach a house with a boy and lady inside. The lady will give you a sticker case, and the boy will give you a sticker for each Unown you catch (More on that later). You can also enter the Solaceon Ruins (Head to the right of town, and then head to the very last set of hedges. Jump down three times until you are near a tree). There isn't much there besides one single new Pokemon: Unown. Fans of G/S/C/FR/LG might recognize this rather useless Pokemon. However, there isn't much to really do at this point in the ruins. Once that is out of the way, heal at the Pokemon center and head up to Route 210. ________________________________________________________________________ / \ / \ |--O--| ROUTE 210-SOUTH |--O--| \___/________________________________________________________________\___/ \00Z3/ ---- /------------------------------------------------------------\ |Pokemon |Version |Morning|Day |Night |Method | |---------------|----------|-------|-------|------|----------| |Ponyta |Both |30% |50% |30% |Normal | |Geodude |Both |30% |30% |30 |Normal | |Kricketune |Both |10% |10% |30% |Normal | |Bonsely |Pearl |25% |5% |5% |Normal | |Mime Jr. |Diamond |25% |5% |5% |Normal | |Chansey |Both |5% |5% |5% |Normal | |--------------------------|----------------------|----------| |After the National Dex |Encounter Rate |Method | |--------------------------|----------------------|----------| |Tauros |Both |20% Diamond, 2% Pearl |PKMN Radar| |Milktank |Both |2% Diamond, 20% Pearl |PKMN Radar| |Zangoose |Both |8% |Ruby | |Seviper |Both |8% |Sapphire | \------------------------------------------------------------/ The Pokemon are pretty much the same as 209, although you can now encounter wild Ponyta. If you did not pick up Chimchar, you might want to pick one up, since it is the only fire type from now until getting the national Pokedex that is a fire type. While you do not need the bike per se, it is a faster solution to get up the mud slopes then going around in the grass. Once you get to the top, you will find the route blocked by a flock of Psyduck that you cannot move at this point. Next to it is a Cafe that has some trainers in it and sells Moo Moo milk for 500 P. Once you are done here, go right and enter route 215. ________________________________________________________________________ / \ / \ |--O--| ROUTE 215 |--O--| \___/________________________________________________________________\___/ \0013/ ---- /------------------------------------------------------------\ |Pokemon |Version |Morning|Day |Night |Method | |---------------|----------|-------|-------|------|----------| |Ponyta |Both |30% |40% |20% |Normal | |Geodude |Both |35% |25% |25% |Normal | |Abra |Both |10% |10% |10% |Normal | |Kadabra |Both |15% |15% |15% |Normal | |Kricketune |Both |10% |10% |30% |Normal | |--------------------------|----------------------|----------| |After the National Dex |Encounter Rate |Method | |--------------------------|----------------------|----------| |Drowzee |Both |40% |Swarm | |Mightyena |Diamond |22% |PKMN Radar| |Houndoom |Pearl |22% |PKMN Radar| |Gligar |Both |8% |Emerald | \------------------------------------------------------------/ Abra and Kadabra! However, you might want to pick up Kadabra anyway, since it still is a strong psychic type (although with weak HP). Route 215 can be a bit confusing. Not only is there a bunch of trainers on the route, but it is always raining (which does the same effect as using the rain dance move). Not only is fire weak on this route, but Thunder is now 100% effective and water attacks are much more powerful. Anywho, the route is fairly confusing at first, but here is what you should do to get to the end: go up the first set of steps and over the bridge, and go down. Head down and to the right and head up the steps to the next bridge. Head over the bridge and go down. From there, the route is fairly straightforward. Head to Veilstone afterward. +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | !!! Not only does it have a giant department store, but it also has a game corner for slots. In truth, you can't do much up north of the city until you beat the gym leader. Grunts will block you way until then. You can go to the department store and get some good items, including great balls and vending machine drinks at the very top (These are the same at potions, but are much cheaper). Stock up on a few before you head out. You can get a Pokemon massage in the southwestern part of town, in the house on the left, for free. Not only that, but you will also get items for contests each time you do it. The items themselves are random, and you can only do it once a day. On the house to the right of the grooming lady is a house that you can get the coin case. Talk to the clown inside and choose the correct hand to get it (I think it is random. If you get the wrong hand, talk to him again). Not much else you can do. There are stones to the right that have no purpose unless you have Deoxys (A event Pokemon you won't have at this point, or maybe never). Once you are ready, head to the gym for your 3rd gym battle. ________________________________________________________________________ / \ / \ |--O--| VEILSTONE GYM |--O--| \___/________________________________________________________________\___/ \0033/ ---- Fighters! Two of Maylene's Pokemon are somewhat resistant against | | Psychic attacks, and one of them is resistant against flying | | attacks. Lets analyze her Pokemon. | | | | Meditite is her first and weakest Pokemon. It is a Psychic/Fighting| | Pokemon, so it cancels out Fighting's weakness against Psychic and | | can still strike ghosts. Best thing to do against Meditite is use | | a flying type like Starvaria. | | | | Machoke is the second of her Pokemon, and is the only pure fighter | | on her team. If you caught a Kadabra earlier, then use it against | | Machoke. Flyers also work well, as well as ghost types such as | | Gastly/Misdreavus. | | | | Lucario is the strongest on her team, and a real pain in the ass | | to take down. Not only does its Steel type make it hard for | | Psychics and Flyers to take down, but its drain punch can take out | | most things in one to two hits, and heal itself. You will need a | | strong fire type, a Ponyta or Monferno work well. If not, Gyrados | | and Dragon Rage can help. Clefairy is pretty much useless, and| | can only put others to sleep using sing, using metronome, or using | | the weak Double Slap Attack. | | | | In terms of the Galactic Pokemon, they are fairly annoying. | | Fortunately, if you have a Psychic Pokemon, you can take out 2 of | | the 4 easily. Beautifly and Dustox go down with fire attacks, so | | use Monferno if you have him. Stunky is the pre-evolved form of | | Stuntank, a Pokemon you fought earlier via a admin, so use the same | | tactics you used against Stuntank. Croagunk is a new one, being one | | of the only Pokemon with the Poison/Fighting type. Psychic works | | great on it, and so does Ground attacks. | \--------------------------------------------------------------------------/ After you beat the galactic grunts, they will give Dawn back her Pokedex. You will also now have access to the warehouse, where you can pick up HM02 (Fly), a powerful flying move that is similar to the move Dig.
