FORZA Motorsport 2 Career Guide by Asdfga3 _____________________________________________________________________________ / \ \_____________________________________________________________________________/ Simply a quick write-up since it's been awhile since I wrote a FAQ. No car list will be included, just career guide. I am simply writing this to give newbie players a leg up, and save them a bit of time and coin, and to help people who may be having some trouble with a particular race or tournament. If you wish to contact me with any questions, comments, suggestions, or errors in the FAQ, please feel free to e-mail me. However I may be late in getting back to you due to busyness and/or laziness on my part. To much time spent at work and building my own car back up for the summer doesn't leave much for gaming or writing. Written out about half of the Career races and how to beat them. More coming as I get to it. -Version 0.51 (06-24-07) - Minor stuff. More info on the Ferrari tournament, Porsche tournament, German C-Class, and a few others. Also started the listing for Factory-Spec races. __________________________________________________________________________ / | 3. CAREER \__________________________________________________________________________ I approached this game with the same basic theory I did with the Gran Turismo series, which is that you really only need to buy two or three cars, the rest can easily be won. If you want to buy more cars, go nuts, but be careful. You can waste loads of cash on something just to win a better version a few races later. So far I have only needed to buy one car (the Ferrari 575 Marrenello) however I know I'm missing a few races that can't be beaten with a prize car. After selecting 'Career' from the main menu you are dropped into the region selection screen. The guide will differ a bit depending on what region you choose, but will basically be the same. I will start off with a brief description of each region, and a strategy for each. Note: Cars by manufacturers outside your home region will also be unlocked, although it will take more time. Your driver level will mean discounts on SOME (but not all) cars in your home region. Since, as I mentioned, you don't buy many cars, it's really about what kind of high-level cars you want discounts on. The difficulty doesn't really matter, since you can fine-tune it anytime during your career. I usually select Intermediate, and then crank up the damage to Realistic, and the AI Driver skill to Hard. This gives me a nice +20% bonus cash per race. ______________________ / | 4.1 PROVING GROUNDS \______________________ Level Requirement: 0 Bonus for completion: 27,000 Achievement points: 15 ___________________ North American Open ___________________ Level: 0 Requirements: North American Manufacturer Prize per race: 1,000 Bonus cash: ? Mine had sport tires, springs (lvl 1), sway bars (lvl 2), weight reduction, clutch, and transmission. It's hard to drive though, and you will only need the MR2 prize car for one challenge, so feel free to leave this one alone until you unlock the Nissan R390. _______________________ Flywheight Invitational _______________________ Level: 7 Requirements: Under 2055 lbs. With my 40% Ferrari discount, I grabbed a 2002 Ferrari 575M Maranello for a little under 100K. Stock curb weight: 3815 lbs. Stop by the body shop and have a full Forza-style body kit installed. Now check your curb weight. Cool huh? Be careful with your other mods. Some, like the transmission, will put you right back under the magic number. Be sure to grab at least a set of Sport tires though. Maybe some clutch and intake work to. Whatever you need to outpace that Ferrari 612. ________________________ / | 4.2 AMATEUR CUP RACES \________________________ Level Requirement: 3 Bonus for completion: 146,500 Achievement points: 25 _________________ Inline 4 Showcase _________________ Level: 3 Requirements: Engine 4 cylinder, Engine Inline style Prize per race: 2,000 Bonus cash: ? However this race is also a piece of cake with the Do-Luck NSX. You could bring the Supra if you really wanted, but it's nowhere near as stable as the NSX. __________________ Sports Car Classic __________________ Level: 7 Requirements: Built before 1975, not a Muscle Car Prize per race: 4,000 Bonus cash: ? Do a full weight reduction, buy Sport Tires, and the best springs and sway bars you can afford. You should be fine with only a Sport Turbo mod on the engine. ____________________ American Iron Runoff ____________________ Level: 7 Requirements: Muscle Car Prize per race: 5,000 Bonus cash: ? Prize car: Guldstrand Corvette Laguna Seca (3 laps) New York Circuit (4 laps) Road Atlanta Short (4 laps) Opponents: D-class and one C-class Vette (459 max) Best car: 1969 Camaro Z28 Hints: For starters grab springs and weight reduction. Also, pick up a racing transmission. This is very important because the stock M21 that came in these old Camaros is only a 4-speed, and can't handle the 150+ speeds especially in New York. This alone will not beat the Vette. I went for a Supercharger and full Intake and Exhaust. However it would have been much cheaper and easier to have just gone with the LS7 swap. If you do go with the swap, be sure to buy a differential, as the torque from the LS7 will jack your tail around. ________________________ Free-Breathing Challenge ________________________ Level: 15 Requirements: Naturaly Aspirated Prize per race: 7,000 Bonus cash: ? Prize car: Mugen S2000 Road Atlanta Short (6 laps) Laguna Seca (4 laps) Tsukuba Circuit (6 laps) Opponents: B-class and one A-class (459 max) Best car: Guldstrand Corvette Hints: I beat this with a combination of my '02 Camaro SS (with 427 swap) and the Guldstrand Vette. If you do the LS7 swap on your 1969 Camaro Z28 like I mentioned earlier, it should be easy to use either that or the Guldstrand to win this Challenge. __________________ Big Block Shootout __________________ Level: 20 Requirements: V8 Engine Prize per race: 10,000 Bonus cash: ? Be careful, one slipup and you're in trouble. Tune the Viper with a higher final drive ration (4.00 works well). Kinda dumb using one Viper Competition Coupe to win another Viper Coupe, but whatever. ____________________________ Extreme Performance Shootout ____________________________ Level: 30 Requirements: V12 Engine Prize per race: 16,000 Bonus cash: 32,000 Prize car: ME Four-Twelve Sebring International Raceway (4 laps) New York Circuit Reverse (8 laps) Suzuka Circuit (5 laps) Sunset Peninsula Infield Reverse (6 laps) Opponents: A and S-class (954 max) Best car: 1967 330 P4 Hints: The Ferrari can win stock, but slicks and suspension work do wonders for this car. As long as no actual turns are involved, they're fine. Grab the Border MR2 you won earlier, and installed full Weight Reduction, Springs, Sway Bars, and Sport Tires. The MR2 is pretty drivable at this point, and you should be able to beat the AI even on Hard. Weight Reduction and a Racing transmission for sure, then go from there. Between the two the R34 is the better choice since it's cheaper to upgrade, is AWD, and is more useful down the road. Up to you however. _______________________ Porsche Sports Car Club _______________________ Level: 15 Requirements: Porsches Prize per race: 8,000 Bonus cash: ? It is very touchy though. ____________________________ American Sports Car Showdown ____________________________ Level: 35 Requirements: Vipers or 'Vettes Prize per race: 25,000 Bonus cash: ??,000 Prize car: #58 Viper GTS-R Road Atlanta (7 laps) Laguna Seca (8 laps) Test Track Infield - King Cobra Reverse (3 laps) Sebring International Raceway (5 laps) Opponents: A and S-class (911 max) Best car: #23 Comp Coupe, Lingenfelter, #73 Corvette Z06 Hints: You could break out your Lingenfelter Corvette to beat this if you really wanted to, but the Viper is much easier to drive, due in most part to the fact that it's not actually trying to fly away as you drive it, unlike the Lingenfelter. Use #23 over #22 because it has one extra Rarity point for some reason. All that much more bonus cash. You can also use the #73 Z06 from the American Class A if you've won it already. It's especially handy for the King Cobra track. ______________ Pride of Italy ______________ Level: 40 Requirements: V12 engine, Ferrari or Lamborghini Prize per race: ??,000 Bonus cash: ??,000 Prize car: #17 Zonda GR Opponents: A and S-class (931 max) Best car: ??? Yeah, we're doing it again. Grab your Mugen from the Integra cup, and do the exact same swap. Then grab all platform upgrades _except_ go with a Street Transmission upgrade, and Stage 1 Weight Reduction. You should have a fairly unbeatable D-class combo at 400 PI at this point. ____________________________ Deutsch C-Class Championship ____________________________ Level: 15 Requirements: Class-C, German Prize per race: 11,000 Bonus cash: ??,000 Prize car: #5 Opel Astra V8 Silverstone International Circuit (4 laps) Sunset Peninsula Infield (3 laps) Mugello Autodromo Internazionale Short (5 laps) Opponents: All C-class (529 max) Best car: 1973 Carrera RS Hints: Full platform mods and 205/235 wide tires should put your Carrera right at 550 with just enough grip to make it past these Benzes. __________________________ Japanese Class B Regionals __________________________ Level: 20 Requirements: Class-B, Japan Prize per race: 14,000 Bonus cash: 28,000 Prize car: VeilSide F03 Sunset Peninsula Infield (5 laps) Tsukuba Circuit (8 laps) New York Circuit (7 laps) Suzuka Circuit West (6 laps) Opponents: All B-class (684 max) Best car: Tommy Kaira M20b Hints: The following mods on your Imprezza should get you at exactly 700 PI: Race Brakes, Race Anti-roll Bars, Sport Transmission, Race Clutch, Race Flywheel Race Driveshaft, and Sport Weight Reduction. You shouldn't need any more than that to take this challenge. ______________________________________ Stars and Stripes B-Class Championship ______________________________________ Level: 20 Requirements: Class-B, American Prize per race: 14,000 Bonus cash: 28,000 Prize car: #16 CTS-V New York Circuit (7 laps) Sebring International Raceway Short (6 laps) Road Atlanta Short (7 laps) Laguna Seca (5 laps) Opponents: All B-class (695 max) Best car: VIS Integra (modded), Shelby GT500 (modded) Hints: Take your VIS Integra and take everything off the engine except a stage 1 turbo, and a stage 1 intercooler. Then grab full platform mods (suspension, clutch, weight, ect.) and sport tires. Then tune your final drive ratio to 4.40. Alternatly you can grab your GT500 from the Heavyweight challenge, do full chassis mods, wieght reduction (obviously, damn two ton car), and grab the stage two tire width (275/305). _______________________________ British Sports Car Championship _______________________________ Level: 25 Requirements: Class-A, British Prize per race: ??,000 Bonus cash: ??,000 Prize car: Jaguar XJ220 Opponents: All A-class (834 max) Best car: Hints: __________________________ American Class A Regionals __________________________ Level: 25 Requirements: Class-A, American Prize per race: 18,000 Bonus cash: 36,000 Prize car: #73 Corvette Z06 Laguna Seca (6 laps) Maple Valley Raceway (5 laps) New York Circuit Reverse (7 laps) Road Atlanta (6 laps) Opponents: All A-class (841 max) Best car: VIS Integra (modded) Hints: Now if you've been following my guide, you should have the K24 swap VIS Integra from the Class C World Trophy tournament. Go grab it and do the following mods: Race Intake, Race Exhaust, Street Ignition, Race Fuel System, Race Cam & Valves, Race Block. This should put you at exactly 850; just enough oomph to push you past the Z06 and the GT. ________________________ GT Championship of Japan ________________________ Level: 35 Requirements: R3, Japanese Prize per race: 27,000 Bonus cash: ??,000 Prize car: #36 GT500 Supra Maple Valley Raceway (6 laps) Nissan Speedway Reverse (9 laps) Road Atlanta (7 laps) Suzuka Circuit (5 laps) Opponents: All R3 Best car: ? Hints: _________________________ / | 4.7 FACTORY-SPEC RACES \_________________________ Level Requirement: 15 Bonus for completion: Achievement points: All Factory-Spec races are open to only one type of car with no mods allowed. There isn't much strategy to these races. If you're having trouble beating the AI, simply bump them down to Medium or Easy. You can also hire an AI driver which will basically negate all income from the races, but will save you a lot of hassle and boredom. _______________________ Porsche 914/6 Challenge _______________________ Level: 15 Requirements: Porsche 914/6 Prize per race: 11,000 Bonus cash: 16,500 Prize car: #55 GT3 Cup Maple Valley Raceway Short (8 laps) Silverstone National Circuit (6 laps) Mugello Autodromo Internazionale Short (5 laps) Opponents: All D-class (196 max) Best car: 1970 Porsche 914/6 Hints: Yeah, this is why you kept it all the way from the begining. There isn't any real trick to beating this, just put the AI on Medium and powerslide like it's going out of style. After you're done feel free to sell the 914, or burn it, or whatever... ____________________ Ford Focus Challenge ____________________ ____________________ Mazdaspeed Challenge ____________________ Level: 15 Requirements: Mazdaspeed Roadster Prize per race: 15,000 Bonus cash: ??,000 Prize car: RE-Amemiya RX-7 Lagina Seca (5 laps) Suzuka Circuit West (6 laps) Sebring International Raceway Short (6 laps) Tsukuba Circuit (8 laps) Opponents: All D-class (296 max) Best car: 2001 Mazda Mazdaspeed Roadster Hints: __________________________ / | 4.8 PROFESSIONAL SERIES \__________________________ Level Requirement: 20 Bonus for completion: Achievement points: Note that all Professional races are tournament-style, meaning that you have to race each track in order. You are however free to switch cars between races, or leave the tournament and continue at a later time. ____________________ Class C World Trophy ____________________ Level: 20 Requirements: Class C Prize per race: 16,000 Bonus cash: 40,000 Prize car: #8 Audi TT Tsukuba Circuit (8 laps) Mugello Autodromo Internazionale Short (7 laps) Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit (4 laps) Suzuka Circuit West (5 laps) New York Circuit Reverse (7 laps) Opponents: All C-class (537 max) Best car: VIS Integra (modded) Hints: Okay, now this gets interesting. Go grab your VIS Integra. It should have full platform mods, and Sport Tires. Go to engine swaps and grab the AWD - K24A1 engine which will drop your little Integra back to class C. Now buy a Stage 1 engine upgrade which (with those platform mods and tires) should bring you back up to 549. Now go into tuning and increase your final-drive ratio to 4.40. Nifty, huh? HP numbers are garbage, but your low weight and excellent traction will leave all these C-classers in the dust. ____________________ World Class B Trophy ____________________ Level: 25 Requirements: Class B Prize per race: ??,000 Bonus cash: ??,000 Prize car: Top Secret Supra Sebring International Raceway Short (7 laps) Suzuka Circuit West (6 laps) Tsukuba Circuit (9 laps) Road Atlanta Short (8 laps) Sunset Peninsula Infield Short (7 laps) Opponents: All B-class (658 max) Best car: Lancia Delta (modded), Tommy Kaira M20b Hints: Full platform mods on your Lancia, plus the following engine mods: Race Intake, Sport Exhaust, Street Ignition, and Race Fuel System should net you 694 PI and plenty enough power to take this tournament. Alternatly you can use the Tommy Kaira M20b from the Japanese Class-B races. ____________________ Class A World Trophy ____________________ Level: 25 Requirements: Class A Prize per race: 21,000 Bonus cash: ??,000 Prize car: HKS Evolution Opponents: All A-class (841 max) Best car: AWE Tuning S4 or VIS Integra (modded) Hints: There are two ways of beating this. Since the top two A-class cars (the Z06 and the GT) are the same as in the American A-class championship, you can use the exact same strategy, and the exact same car (VIS Integra with K24 swap). Alternatly, you can go win the AWE S4 from the quattro Cup and do full platform mods _except_ Weight Reduction. Either way you should be able to tackle the Vette. __________________________________________________________________________ / | 4. WALKTHROUGH \__________________________________________________________________________ This is a rough guide showing what order you should run the early career races. Please use it in conjunction with the individual descriptions of the races themselves since this is just a quick rundown of how to get started. Once you get further into your career it's pretty much wide open for what order you race them in. Please scroll down to whichever region you prefer. Europe will get priority, since that's the region I chose. Others should be about the same. If you have any tips for the other regions, please send them in. _____________ / | 5.1 EUROPE \_____________ The highest rated car here is the Golf GTi. Beat the Europian Open with your Golf. This will net you a: *1970 Porsche 914/6 Keep that little crapbox in your garage. You will need it later. You should have also hit driver level two. Race the FWD Shootout with the VW and you will win: *Mazda Roadster Take it and win the RWD Shootout: *Lancia Delta Get in the Lancia and win the AWD Shootout: *Wings West Civic Take this pug-fugly car and beat the Asian Open: *Sprinter Trueno You should now unlock: *** Amateur Cup Races Still in the Wings West Civic, race the Inline-4 Showcase: * VIS Integra Keep this car around, you will use it quite a bit. Do NOT upgrade the engine or this car though, only the chassis. Get back in your Gold and drop for a few mods of your choice, as well as a Stage-1 turbo. I suggest buying only the turbo, and putting the rest into suspension/transmission/clutch/weight reduction. Take your car and your shiny new turbo and blow down the Boosted Shootout: *Do-Luck Supra Take the Supra and beat the 6-cylinder Showoff: *Tommy Kaira R34 Now go back to the first tier of races, get in your VIS Acura Integra and beat the North American Open: *1969 Camaro Z28 If you want to you can drop a few grand into the Camaro and use it to beat the American Iron Challenge. Or not. Doesn't really matter. Once you hit level 5 you will gain access to: *** Manufacturer Club Races. Once you unlock these, take your VIS Integra and beat the Integra Cup. The Mugen Integra you're up against is no joke, so consider some weight reduction and maybe some clutch work. Remember no engine mods for this Acura yet: *Mugen Integra ...and then the VW club with your Golf: * VW Golf R32 All the other races in this tier are a bit over your head for now. You should have hit level seven awhile ago; high enough to unlock: *** Semi-Pro Grab the 2001 Mazdaspeed Roadster you won from the FWD Shootout and enter the 150hp Invitational. You can do anything to the car OTHER than engine mods. I beat it bone stock, but the car is squirrely, so if your having problems try Weight Reduction, Sway Bars, or maybe Sport Tires. Once you beat it: * Tommy Kaira M20b The next race is the 200hp Invitational. Grab your VIS Acura and beat this one. This is why you didn't upgrade it earlier. All other mods are fair game. * Sparco Evo.8 From here on out it's wide open. ____________________ / | 5.2 NORTH AMERICA \____________________ ___________ / | 5.3 ASIA \___________
